Protecting client confidentiality or personal data is non-negotiable. Our Redact PDF toolallows you to permanently black out text and images before sharing.
Before sharing documents in litigation, redact opposing party personal details, privileged communications, and non-relevant sensitive data as required by court rules.
Government agencies redact private individual data (SSNs, addresses) from documents released under Freedom of Information Act requests before public disclosure.
Before sharing patient records with insurers or employers, redact unrelated diagnoses, third-party patient data, or clinician notes that are not relevant to the request.
When using past proposals as templates or case studies, redact the original client’s name, budget, and contact details before sharing as an example.
Redaction errors can have serious consequences — avoid these pitfalls.
Drawing a black box instead of true redaction
If you just draw a black rectangle in a PDF editor without applying true redaction, anyone can remove the box or copy the text underneath. Our tool performs true permanent redaction.
Forgetting to redact document metadata
Visible redactions protect page content, but PDF metadata (author name, creation software, revision history) may still reveal identifying information. For maximum privacy, also clean document metadata before sharing.
Pro tip: Protect first, then redact
After redacting, add a password using our Protect PDF tool before sharing. This ensures recipients cannot attempt to edit or remove any redaction marks in a PDF editor.
